The 12 Days of Building Product Terms: DAY 4 - Wire Cloth Infill

Click "Read More" to get started on day 4's term,
Wire Cloth Infill.

WIRE CLOTH INFILL

Wire Cloth Infill (or Wire Mesh Infill) refers to the inner area of a security screen. Wire cloth infill is stronger and more durable than typical cloth insect screening that is often seen on residential windows.

The strength of a particular type of wire cloth infill is determined by the amount of wires per inch and the diameter of each of those wires.

For example, a screen with 10 mesh .047" diameter would be considered a heavy duty screen.  This is because there are ten wires per inch and the diameter of the wires is thicker than average.

Rock guards for windows tend to be a 1 or 2 mesh (one or two wires per inch), bird screens are often a 4 mesh (4 wires per inch), and security grade screens would range anywhere between 10 to 12 mesh and greater.
